ARTEMIS is an Android automation system that turns natural-language instructions into end-to-end device workflows. It provides a web console, an MCP server for AI IDEs, a developer CLI, and a Python SDK, and it captures logs and screenshots during execution. It reports a 99%+ task completion rate on Google Research's AndroidWorld benchmark.
Key Features
- Cross-app automation from natural-language instructions across Android testing workflows and everyday tasks.
- Multimodal targeting with element indices, coordinate locating, and visual locating fallbacks for custom interfaces.
- Model Context Protocol integration for AI IDEs to drive test devices and collect Logcat output and screenshots.
- Flash execution profile with a reactive observe-and-act loop typically taking 3–5 seconds per step.
- Pro execution profile with planning, pre-execution safety checks, verification, and long-running exploration.
- Reported 99%+ task completion on the AndroidWorld benchmark spanning 100+ multi-step tasks.
Use Cases
- Automating end-to-end Android app workflows and regression tests from natural-language prompts.
- Letting AI coding assistants in IDEs reproduce bugs and run tests on real devices or emulators.
- Running exploratory stability tests and long-running Android automation.
- Integrating Android test execution into pytest-style frameworks or CI/CD pipelines via the Python SDK.
Getting Started
- Ensure an Android device with USB debugging enabled or an emulator is connected.
- Run start.sh on macOS or Linux, or start.bat in Windows PowerShell.
- Use the browser console on port 8000 for device connection, screen mirroring, prompt sandbox, and execution replays.
- For CLI use, run artemis with a prompt and select the flash or pro profile.
Deployment & Requirements
- Python 3.12 or newer.
- A connected Android device with USB debugging enabled, or an emulator.
- The one-click startup script installs ADB, scrcpy, FFmpeg, and uv dependencies.
- The first device task installs the Artemis Accessibility Helper on the phone.
