Claude Code Plugins is Anthropic's official marketplace and directory for Claude Code plugins. A Claude Code plugin is a directory of skills, agents, hooks, MCP servers, or other components that Claude Code installs and loads as one unit; most plugins come from a marketplace, and the directory lists both Anthropic-maintained internal plugins and third-party plugins from partners and the community.
Key Features
- Packages skills, agents, hooks, MCP servers, and other components into a single installable plugin.
- Lists internal plugins developed and maintained by Anthropic alongside external third-party plugins from partners and the community.
- Supports installing from the official marketplace with /plugin install {plugin-name}@claude-plugins-official or browsing plugins in /plugin > Discover.
- Defines a standard plugin structure with a required .claude-plugin/plugin.json manifest and optional MCP configuration, commands, agents, skills, and README documentation.
- Supports skill-bundle marketplace entries for repositories that ship SKILL.md files without a plugin manifest, using strict false and an explicit skills array.
Use Cases
- Install curated plugins from Anthropic's official marketplace to extend Claude Code with skills, agents, hooks, or MCP servers.
- Browse internal and third-party plugins in the Discover tab to find a setup someone else built.
- Submit third-party plugins for inclusion in the official marketplace through the plugin directory submission form.
- Package several skills, subagents, hooks, or MCP servers as one unit for teammates or multiple projects.
Getting Started
- Run /plugin in a Claude Code terminal session to open the plugin interface.
- Browse the Discover tab to see plugins from your marketplaces, or install a plugin from the official marketplace with /plugin install {plugin-name}@claude-plugins-official.
- For plugin development without a marketplace, load the plugin directly from its folder with --plugin-dir.
Before You Adopt
- License: Apache-2.0. Review its terms before using, modifying, or distributing the project.
- Plugins may include MCP servers, files, or other software that Anthropic does not control or verify, so users should confirm trust before installing, updating, or using a plugin.
- Installing a plugin can run code with the user's own privileges, regardless of marketplace tier.
- An enabled plugin is active across every session, not only sessions where it is used.
