Overview

Happy is an open-source remote control for coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex that run on your own computers. It lets you start, steer, approve, and review agent sessions from iOS, Android, or the web, then continue the same session in your terminal. Session data is end-to-end encrypted: your code, agent, and encryption keys stay on your devices, and only encrypted session data passes through the Happy backend. The project is built by a small team and publishes the app, CLI, and server as open source.

Key Features

  • Mobile access to Claude Code and Codex sessions from iOS, Android, or the web
  • Push notifications when an agent needs permission or encounters errors
  • Instant switching between phone, desktop, and terminal with a single keypress
  • End-to-end encryption, with keys held on your own devices and only ciphertext relayed
  • Open source app, CLI, and server with no telemetry or tracking
  • Realtime voice support alongside the mobile and web clients

Use Cases

  • Checking on a long-running agent task while away from your desk
  • Answering an agent's permission request or question from your phone
  • Reviewing diffs and live session output remotely before continuing work
  • Starting at your desk and continuing the same session from another device

Getting Started

  • Download the iOS or Android app.
  • Install the CLI on your computer with: npm install -g happy
  • Start your agent through the wrapper: happy claude or happy codex
  • Optionally download the native macOS desktop app from its releases page.

Deployment & Requirements

  • A computer on which your code and coding agent keep running
  • Node.js/npm to install the happy CLI globally via npm install -g happy
  • A paired iOS or Android device, or a web browser, for remote control
  • Claude Code or Codex installed to be launched through the happy wrapper

Before You Adopt

  • License: MIT. Review its terms before using, modifying, or distributing the project.
  • Session data is end-to-end encrypted: the backend stores and relays only opaque ciphertext and never receives the decryption key.
  • The CLI was migrated from the earlier happy-coder npm package.
  • The project states that it is open source with no telemetry or tracking.
