Overview

Mem0 is a drop-in memory infrastructure for AI agents and apps, providing persistent context that enables continuous learning from past user interactions. It is built for production use.

Key Features

  • Multi-Level Memory: retains User, Session, and Agent state with adaptive personalization
  • Memory Compression Engine: condenses chat history into compact memories to cut tokens and latency
  • Single-pass hierarchical distillation and multi-signal retrieval (semantic, BM25, entity matching)
  • Developer-friendly: intuitive API, cross-platform SDKs (Python, Node.js), and managed service option
  • Enterprise governance: SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR compliance, BYOK, zero-trust, and portable deployment

Use Cases

  • AI Assistants: consistent, context-rich conversations
  • Customer Support: recall past tickets and user history for tailored help
  • Healthcare: track patient preferences and history for personalized care
  • Sales & CRM: track interactions, objections, and milestones across long sales cycles

Getting Started

  • Install the SDK with pip install mem0ai or npm install mem0ai. For the cloud platform, sign up at app.mem0.ai and use the API key. For self-hosted, use docker compose up in the server directory. The CLI is available via npm install -g @mem0/cli or pip install mem0-cli.

Deployment & Requirements

  • Requires an LLM (default OpenAI gpt-5-mini) and an embedding model (default text-embedding-3-small). For hybrid search, a stronger embedding model like Qwen 600M is recommended. Self-hosted deployment requires Docker. Python 3.x or Node.js is needed for SDK usage.

Before You Adopt

  • License: Apache-2.0. Review its terms before using, modifying, or distributing the project.
  • Open-source SDK may not match managed platform performance.
  • Mem0 requires an external LLM to function.
