OpenBot
An open-source agent platform that runs inside your own infrastructure. Each AI coworker gets its own computer, browser, files, and tools, with company knowledge and permissions. Bring any AG-UI agent.

OpenBot is an open-source, fully customizable agent application for employees, running on infrastructure you own. It is built on AG-UI and accepts any AG-UI endpoint as a coworker, with company knowledge, permissions, computer use, and an audit trail in one place.
Key Features
- A computer per Bot: each Bot gets its own container, workspace volume, and browser profile.
- Governed tool and action gateway: every tool call is resolved, evaluated against policy, audited, and only then executed.
- Company knowledge with real permissions: connects Google Drive and OneDrive; answers cite sources and permissions fail closed.
- Computer use with human handoff: agents can sign in and drive interfaces while users watch, take control, and hand it back.
- Bring your own AG-UI agent: any AG-UI endpoint can be registered as a Bot, on frameworks such as LangGraph, Mastra, CrewAI, Pydantic AI, or Google ADK.
- Runs on your infrastructure: data, vectors, permissions, and conversations live in your PostgreSQL; admins supply model credentials, encrypted at rest.
Use Cases
- Company knowledge: answers policy and process questions from company documents and names its sources.
- Warehouse analyst: queries the analytics warehouse and draws the answer rather than describing it. Read-only by construction.
- Desk research: gathers context from the open web and drafts from it, keeping contradictory sources rather than quietly picking one.
- Tool operator: signs in and works inside tools that have no API worth using, with the screen open so you can watch.
Getting Started
- Create .env by copying .env.example and run bun install.
- Run npx --yes copilotkit@latest login and npx --yes copilotkit@latest project select, then run bun scripts/setup-learning.ts.
- Set OPENAI_API_KEY; generate KEY_ENCRYPTION_KEY with openssl rand -base64 32.
- Run bash scripts/start.sh and open the app on localhost port 3010.
Deployment & Requirements
- Docker, for PostgreSQL and the shipped Bots.
- Bun 1.3+, for the app and API server.
- A CopilotKit Intelligence project and license; a free plan is available, and Intelligence can be self-hosted.
- A model key. The proof-of-concept Bot uses OpenAI; the LangGraph Bot can use OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google.
- Docker Compose stands up a demo; Helm is the supported path to production. One Docker image can carry the app, API, browser, and optionally PostgreSQL.
Before You Adopt
- License: MIT. Review its terms before using, modifying, or distributing the project.
- OpenBot is a template rather than a hosted product, and it is not published as a package to depend on.
- The project is alpha and under active development.
- A CopilotKit Intelligence project and license is an external dependency, though a free plan is available and Intelligence can be self-hosted.
- Data and conversations are stored in the deployment's PostgreSQL, and nothing is sent to destinations you did not configure.
- No model is bundled; the built-in agent remains unavailable until an administrator configures a provider, with no silent fallback.
