OpenMontage

Overview

OpenMontage is an open-source, agentic video production system that turns AI coding assistants into a full video production studio. It supports research, scripting, asset generation, editing, and final composition, and can create image-based videos, local character animation, or real-footage documentaries. The desktop app OpenMontage Studio provides a creative workspace where users can direct complete productions or focused tasks.

Getting Started

• Install prerequisites: Python 3.10+, FFmpeg, Node.js 18+, and an AI coding assistant such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Windsurf, or Codex.
• Clone the repository and run make setup, or use the manual setup commands for macOS/Linux or Windows PowerShell.
• Open the project in your AI coding assistant and describe the video you want, such as a 60-second animated explainer.
• Add optional API keys in .env for more image, video, music, voice, and stock media tools.

• API keys are optional; more keys provide more tools.

Before You Adopt

• License: AGPL-3.0. Review its terms before using, modifying, or distributing the project.
• OpenMontage Studio is currently in private alpha, and beta access is waitlist-based.
• Capabilities vary because users bring their own media-provider accounts and supported local tools.
• The workflow is local-first for footage and rendering.
• Joining the waitlist involves email communication about the beta with an opt-out option.
• The website uses Google Analytics but provides an analytics opt-out.
