OpenRig turns AI coding agents into a persistent, organized team. A lead agent coordinates specialists, tracks their work, and brings results and decisions that need attention back to the user; teams can run on the user's own machine with Claude Code, Codex, and Pi.
Key Features
- A persistent team of coding agents with roles and shared context.
- A lead agent can delegate work to specialists and track their progress.
- Supports Claude Code, Codex and Pi in the same rig, managed as one system.
- Agents can assign owned work through a queue and keep it visible for follow-up.
- An OpenRig TUI shows how agents are organized, what they are working on and where attention is needed.
- Self-hosted operation on the user's own machine.
Use Cases
- Coordinate a large project across specialist coding agents over weeks or months.
- Route a question to a specialist agent that already holds relevant project context.
- Assign a named teammate a task and track its owner and progress.
- Use Claude Code and Codex together as one managed team.
Getting Started
- Install @openrig/cli globally with npm install -g @openrig/cli.
- Preview setup with rig setup --dry-run, then apply it with rig setup.
- Start the daemon with rig daemon start and open the kernel view with rig terminal open saved:kernel --window.
- Alternatively, add OpenRig's rigs skill to Claude Code or Codex with npx, then invoke /rigs or $rigs and describe what you want built.
Deployment & Requirements
- Node.js 22 or 24 (22 on Apple silicon) and tmux.
- macOS or Linux; on Windows, WSL2 is required and native Windows is not supported.
- A working Claude Code or Codex account, signed in; one provider is enough to start.
- Self-hosted; runs on the user's own machine.
Before You Adopt
- License: Apache-2.0. Review its terms before using, modifying, or distributing the project.
- OpenRig's kernel runs with broader permissions than a project team gets by default.
- OpenRig does not guarantee preservation or rollback of the setup files it changes, so users should back them up first.
- Windows users must use WSL2 because native Windows is not supported.
- OpenRig's automated tests do not yet run on WSL2.
