PromptHub is a local-first desktop workspace for managing AI assets such as prompts, skills, rules, MCP entries, plugins, and agent configurations. It combines organization, version history, multi-model testing, local scanning, export, backup, and sync so reusable assets can be applied across multiple AI coding tools.
Key Features
- Prompt management with folders, tags, favorites, template variables, full-text search, Markdown rendering, and inline editing
- Skill store and one-click distribution to Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf, and other mainstream tools, with local scanning and symlink or copy modes
- Agent workspace for skills, rules, MCP connections, plugins, model providers, and session history
- Version history for prompts, skills, and rules with diffs and rollback
- Sync and backup through WebDAV, S3, local snapshots, and self-hosted PromptHub Web, plus ZIP export and import
- AI testing and generation with multiple providers and models, including parallel model comparison and prompt or skill generation
Use Cases
- Centralize prompt libraries with variables and version history for repeated reuse and testing
- Distribute reusable skills to multiple AI coding tools from one workspace
- Manage agent-specific rules, MCP entries, plugins, and model configuration for projects
- Back up or sync AI assets across devices and keep a self-hosted snapshot for local or LAN access
Getting Started
- Download the desktop release for Windows, macOS, or Linux, or install the macOS cask with Homebrew
- Create a prompt with a title, description, system prompt, and user prompt; template variables appear as fillable fields when copied or tested
- Open the Skills tab to choose store skills or scan local directories for existing SKILL.md files
- Optionally configure WebDAV, S3, or a self-hosted PromptHub Web instance for sync or backup
Deployment & Requirements
- Desktop builds are available for Windows, macOS, and Linux; macOS packages use Developer ID signing and Apple notarization
- Building from source requires Node.js 24 or later and pnpm 9
- Self-hosted PromptHub Web can run with Docker on a NAS, VPS, or LAN and requires a JWT_SECRET of at least 32 random characters; registration should remain disabled after first user setup
- Desktop and self-hosted Web must be exactly the same version to create backups
Before You Adopt
- License: AGPL-3.0. Review its terms before using, modifying, or distributing the project.
- Private folders are hidden inside the app but are not encrypted on disk.
- WebDAV and S3 online sync allow only one active sync source to avoid multi-source conflict writes.
- Desktop and self-hosted Web backups require exactly matching versions, and restore is user-triggered after creating a local safety snapshot.
- The CLI is not installed automatically by the desktop app and must be packaged and installed from the repository.
- The Cloudflare Workers branch is not treated as a safe self-hosted backup endpoint until the desktop backup route is completed.
