Overview

Superpowers is an agentic skills framework and software development methodology for coding agents. It steps back to draw out intent, presents design in digestible chunks, creates an implementation plan, then uses composable skills that trigger automatically to support implementation, testing, review, and branch completion.

Key Features

  • Composable skills and initial instructions that make coding agents use the methodology automatically.
  • Workflow covers brainstorming, design approval, writing plans, subagent-driven development or inline execution, test-driven development, code review, and finishing a development branch.
  • Skills library includes testing, debugging, collaboration, and meta skills such as test-driven-development, systematic-debugging, brainstorming, writing-plans, executing-plans, requesting-code-review, and writing-skills.
  • Supports separate installation across many coding agent harnesses, including Claude Code, Codex App and CLI, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, OpenCode, Qwen Code, and others.
  • Includes diagnosing-superpowers for investigating session problems and packaging evidence for bug reports.

Use Cases

  • Guiding a coding agent from initial idea through design, planning, implementation, review, and branch completion.
  • Running test-driven development and subagent-driven development workflows with review after each task.
  • Diagnosing a misbehaving agent session and producing evidence for a bug report.
  • Creating and testing new skills using the writing-skills best practices.

Getting Started

  • Installation differs by harness. If you use more than one, install Superpowers separately for each one.
  • Claude Code: install from the official Claude plugin marketplace with /plugin install superpowers@claude-plugins-official.
  • Codex CLI: open the plugin search interface with /plugins, search for superpowers, and select Install Plugin.
  • Cursor: in Cursor Agent chat, install from the marketplace with /add-plugin superpowers.
  • Devin CLI: install the plugin from this repository with devin plugins install obra/superpowers.

Before You Adopt

  • License: MIT. Review its terms before using, modifying, or distributing the project.
  • Superpowers must be installed separately for each coding agent harness in use.
  • Hermes users must restart active sessions after installing Superpowers.
  • Telemetry is enabled by default via a logo load that includes the Superpowers version.
