Overview

The text-to-cad plugin provides local CAD workflows for agents that support plugins or the skills framework, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, and Grok. It can generate and edit 3D models, export STEP, GLB, STL, and 3MF files, perform manufacturing checks and engineering drawings, and connect to 3D printing, sheet metal, and CNC fabrication services.

• For agents without plugin support, install the skills with the Skills CLI using npx skills add earthtojake/text-to-cad#latest.

Deployment & Requirements

• CAD runs through uv; verify that uv is installed before use.
• The first start downloads CAD's runtime, so it needs a network connection.
• The repository badges indicate Python 3.11+ and Node.js 20+.
• On Windows 11 with Smart App Control enabled, unsigned OCP native code can be blocked; running the CAD skills under WSL is an alternative.

Before You Adopt

• License: MIT. Review its terms before using, modifying, or distributing the project.
• Telemetry is enabled by default and can send usage statistics and crash reports, though the project states it does not include files, paths, or prompts.
• Windows 11 Smart App Control can block the unsigned OCP native module, causing CAD commands to fail.
