GenOffice

Overview

GenOffice is a free, open-source desktop office suite for macOS, Windows and Linux. It provides Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDF, HTML and Markdown editors with a built-in AI agent that can edit documents, spreadsheets, presentations and PDFs. Files open, edit, save and convert locally; AI features use Genspark credits or your own API key.

Key Features

• Docs opens and saves real .docx files with byte-preserving editing, so only the content you change is rewritten.
• Sheets uses an in-house .xlsx engine with charts, pivot tables, slicers, conditional formatting and formula tracing.
• Slides creates and edits native .pptx decks with masters, layouts and smart guides.
• PDF supports in-place text and image editing, annotations and forms, plus local conversion to Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
• HTML and Markdown editors generate and edit self-contained pages and plain Markdown, with local export to Word.
• Local file search indexes names, folders and extracted text in an on-device SQLite full-text index, with optional TypeSafe Jev reranking.

Getting Started

• Download GenOffice for macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel), Windows (x64 or ARM64) or Linux (Debian/Ubuntu, AppImage, Fedora/RHEL) from genoffice.ai or GitHub releases.
• Open, edit, save and convert files locally; sign in with Genspark or add your own provider API key to use AI features.
• For coding agents, install the genoffice skill from Settings → Integrations, download the skill as a zip, or run npx skills add genspark-ai/genoffice; then use the genoffice CLI or genoffice mcp server.

Deployment & Requirements

• macOS 11+; Windows 10+ (x64) or Windows 11+ (ARM64); Linux x86_64 with glibc 2.34+.
• Desktop app with local opening, editing, saving and PDF-to-Office conversion.
• AI features require Genspark credits or your own API key; supported providers include Claude, OpenAI, Gemini and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, local servers included.
• Scanned-page OCR is supported on macOS and Windows.

Before You Adopt

• License: Apache-2.0. Review its terms before using, modifying, or distributing the project.
• AI features are not fully bundled; they depend on Genspark credits or a user-supplied API key, and provider usage charges may apply.
• Formatting fidelity may vary for complex files, so important documents should be checked before sharing.
• PDF conversion output should be reviewed for tables and formatting.
• Online AI features send requests to the chosen provider when used, while core file operations stay local.
• Official builds collect limited usage statistics by default, with an opt-out in settings.
