Agent Toolkit for AWS

Overview

Agent Toolkit for AWS is an official AWS-supported toolkit that gives AI coding agents tools, knowledge, and guardrails for working with AWS services. It works with coding agents including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Devin, Kiro, and fx, and provides MCP servers, skills, plugins, rules files, and a managed AWS MCP Server.

Getting Started

• For the AWS CLI, run aws configure agent-toolkit.
• For Claude Code, install supported plugins such as aws-core from the official Anthropic marketplace; aws-startup-advisor is installed from this repository's marketplace.
• For Codex, add the repository as a plugin marketplace with codex plugin marketplace add aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws, then install aws-core through /plugins.
• For Cursor, add the repository as a team marketplace and install the aws-core plugin from the Plugins panel.
• For Devin, install a plugin with devin plugins install aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws#plugins/aws-core after running devin auth login.

Deployment & Requirements

• uv must be installed for skills setup, including Kiro and fx configurations.
• An AWS account with credentials configured locally is required for API calls and script execution, but not for documentation search or skill discovery.
• Devin installation requires devin auth login.
• Plugins are currently available for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and Devin; other agents configure the AWS MCP Server directly and install skills from the repository.

Before You Adopt

• License: Apache-2.0. Review its terms before using, modifying, or distributing the project.
• The toolkit succeeds the AWS Labs MCP servers, skills, and plugins, and AWS recommends using the Agent Toolkit instead.
• Plugin availability is currently limited to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and Devin; other agents require direct AWS MCP Server configuration and skills installation.
• AWS API calls and script execution require an AWS account with locally configured credentials, while documentation search and skill discovery do not.
