Bytebase is an open-source database governance platform that acts as a single control plane between users, including humans and AI agents, and databases. It governs database change management, access control, and compliance so every change and query is reviewed, controlled, and recorded. Bytebase supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB, Redis, MariaDB, TiDB, Snowflake, ClickHouse, Spanner, OceanBase, and more.
Key Features
- GUI-based change workflow for requesting, reviewing, deploying, and rolling back database changes through a web console.
- GitOps integration with native GitHub/GitLab support for database-as-code workflows.
- SQL review with more than 200 lint rules to enforce SQL standards and best practices.
- Access control with fine-grained RBAC, just-in-time access grants with automatic revocation, and role-based dynamic data masking.
- Compliance capabilities including audit logging, codified policy through Terraform Provider and API, and data classification.
- AI features including an MCP server for AI agents and IDEs, text-to-SQL in the SQL Editor, and a built-in page agent for natural-language workflow guidance or execution.
Use Cases
- For development teams: implement database schema version control, automate database deployments through CI/CD pipelines, and collaborate on database changes with review workflows.
- For DBAs: centralize database management across all environments, enforce organization-wide SQL standards and policies, and monitor and audit all database activities.
- For security teams: control data access with column-level permissions, implement data masking for sensitive information, and maintain compliance with audit trails.
Getting Started
- Run the Docker quick start: docker run --init --name bytebase --publish 8080:8080 --volume ~/.bytebase/data:/var/opt/bytebase bytebase/bytebase:latest
- Run the Kubernetes quick start: helm install bytebase bytebase/bytebase
- Visit localhost:8080 and follow the setup wizard.
Deployment & Requirements
- Self-hosted Docker quick start uses the bytebase/bytebase image with port 8080 published and a data volume mounted at /var/opt/bytebase.
- Self-hosted Kubernetes quick start uses the bytebase/bytebase Helm chart.
